Dussehra marks the end of navratri celebrations. The nine day long Hindu festival of worshiping the feminine energy Shakti comes to an end with Dussehra.Also known as Vijaya Dashami, this day signifies the victory of good over evil.On this day Maa Durga had killed demon king Mahisasura and saved the earth from his atrocities.
According to Ramayana, when demon king Ravana abducted Sita Mata and kept her hostage in Ashoka Vatika, Lord Rama fought against the demon to get his wife back. Ravana has ten heads, hence killing one who has ten heads was called Dussehra.
